Recap
In this task, we will transform the draft into real art. In the process, we
need to use our creativity, imagination and knowledge to help us complete this
work.
Selected Draft
Fig 3.1 Draft 1 1/3/2025
The reason behind chosing this as the final draft is that the subject of growing up is very attractive in comparison. I find the contrast between maturity and immaturity very appealing and I think highlighting this will bring balance and also enhance the focus. I decided to change the flower on the boy's head to a gray withered flower, symbolizing the passing of youth, and the face covered by the smoke from the pipe represents the confusion and uncertainty of entering society, and also represents the stage of just entering maturity.
Final (The Passing Youth)
Rationale
In my opinion, the topic of growing up is a very intresting and very eye-catching, it even appears to be a type of movie. It creates comparism in maturity and immaturity, making it very iconic for artistic exploration. It creates a sense of balance, allowing both elements connect to one another. In this piece, I aimed to highlight the transition from youth to adulthood through some specific elements.
The gray, withered flower on the boy's head represents the fading of youth, signifying the inevitable passage of time. This highlights the weakness of innocence and the slow and uncertain approach of maturity. Meanwhile, the boy's face, hidden by smoke from the pipe, it tells the uncertainty and confusion that accompany the transition into adulthood. It also connects to daily life, in which the young adults finds it hard to either finding job, or joining society and etc. The smoke acts as a veil, representing the haziness of new responsibilities, self inprovements, and the challenges of complexed society.
Looking at these elements, it is cleared that the artwork captures the emotional and psychological influences of growing up. It reflects the tension between childhood and maturity and also invits the audience relating it to their own experiences with change.
