Experience
Throughout this semester, I understands typography not just as a tool, but a form of visual expression. Each of the task allow me to apply what I learned in lectures and software practices into real artworks. By exploring basic typography knowledge all the way to designing a full font, every step pushed me to look deeper into the module. One of the most rememberable experiences was turning abstract concepts from a mood board into a complete design. All the technical challenges, especially with software like FontForge, it all teaches me of the creativity in design.
Observations
I began to notice how small changes, for example, shifting a stroke or altering a shape, can change how a letter communicates. I also realized that a strong design doesn't come from making things complex, but from balancing form and function. Creating my own font was important on consistency, alignment, and kerning. Meanwhile, working with mood boards taught me to focus on visual theme and translate abstract ideas like "freedom" or "lightness" into letter shapes. I now find myself observing type everywhere, in packaging, posters, games. And thinking more critically about how it works.
Findings
By the end of this semester, I've come to understand typography as both a technical and emotional craft. It's not only about creating letters. It's about shaping meaning and through design. I've learned to be more experimental, to embrace software limitations as creative boundaries, and to explore unfamillier combinations to create something unique. I found confidence in trusting my design instincts and now approach typography with a sharper eye and a deeper appreciation. This course has taught me with both the skills and the mindset to continue growing as a designer.
