Project 2 : Website Redesign Prototype / Taylor's University

This website belongs to a design company  called Vision Van Gogh, it's services includes a lot of creative design, such as graphic design, CD and DVD packaging, banners, merchandise design, vinyl records, and web design. The company aims to serve a wide client base through both traditional and digital media solutions. However, the current website design has a lot of errors that effects people's effectively reading, which effects the company's capabilities and brand identity. These visual and functional issues will  impact the user experience and reduce the overall effectiveness.

One major issue is the quality of visual content is that many images appear blurry or are displayed at low resolution, which makes the site look unprofessional. In a company that focuses on design, visual presentation plays a important role, and poor image quality reduces overall readability. Another issue is the use of white text on an orange background. This combination lacks sufficient contrast, making it difficult for users to read the content easily and clearly. Accessibility is a key point when it comes to user interface design, and the current color choices does not meet the standard. In addition, the color palette is too limited and lacks variation, making the website to feel flat and repetitive. Moreover, there are no strong visual branding elements, such as consistent logo placement, color identity, or layout style. Users might find it hard to recognize or remember the brand after visiting the site.

To solve these problems and enhance the brand's identity, I redesign and made some design improvements. Firstly I replace the backgound to be high-contrast yellow background (#EEB23A) to the top of the website, with deep blue text colour (#35354A) to create a easier-to-read and easy accessable first impression. This color combination will grab audience's attention and improves overall readability. On the other hand, the brand logo was updated, and service labels were made more readable and distinctive. A dark navigation bar was added to make a contrast with the lighter content sections above, creating a clear visual design that helps users browse the site more smoothly. These changes in color and layout contribute to a clearer and more trustworthy brand image.

From a usability standpoint, we made several interactive improvements. For example, when users move their cursor over a text area, that section now highlights in orange (#FF7700) button. This hover effect makes the interface to become more sufficient to use and easier to know where they are at. Compared to the previous design, the font color was gray and while user's mouse move on the words, text appears in black, which is not that easy to look at.

In terms of layout structure, the original magazine-style design I desided to use, later I noticed it requiring users to follow a fixed navigation path to access information. It does not related to this website, so I choose to use a modern, tech-inspired flat design approach. By using color blocks and lines, a stronger sense of visual order was created. The typography was changed, and generous white space was introduced to make the content clearer. For better usability, menus and buttons were added so users can quickly find the information they need. The new design is entirely driven by user experience.

In conclusion, the redesigned website addresses the visual and functional weaknesses of the original version. It introduces a stronger brand identity, improved structure, enhanced accessibility, and a more engaging user experience. By focusing on clear visual branding, consistent styling, and interactive usability, the updated website positions the company as a modern, professional, and user-friendly design service provider. These changes not only help communicate the brand more effectively but also leave a lasting impression on both new and returning visitors.
